Israac is partnered with both Sheffield universities for action-research projects that support culturally sensitive public health work in marginalised communities. Led by our chair, Adam Yusuf, and our treasurer, Professor Emeritus Geoff Green, the Research and Innovation hub sits in the heart of the community centre.
University of Sheffield projects include CognoSpeak, Brain Health + Dementia, and PPI Neuromod Collaboration Research. Public health work includes Health Literacy and CLARITY. A partnership with the School of Geography and Planning looks at transcontinental urban citizenship. We also support Sheffield Hallam University’s power-assisted exercise work on the STROKE PPI project.

Community researchers
Israac staff and trustees are active in research and innovation. Community researchers Sahra Abdi and Muse Jama help bring lived experience into the work. Adam Yusuf also leads Active Legs, a Sheffield company developing exercise devices for leg and foot health, including the Footrocka device made with the University of Sheffield’s iForge Makerspace and Hallam’s Advanced Wellbeing Research Centre.
Photos on this page are from the opening day of the Research and Innovation hub on 25 March 2026, and from earlier project visits.
