About us

‘Israac’ means ‘Unity’ in Somali.

Welcome to ISRAAC Somali Community Association, a vibrant, inclusive hub in the heart of Sheffield. Founded in the early 1980s, ISRAAC has grown into a trusted community centre that celebrates culture, supports wellbeing, and strengthens connections across generations.

We provide a safe space where people from all backgrounds can come together to learn, share, and thrive. Though most Somalis are Muslims, we welcome many other faiths.

About us

Our community space

Israac members purchased our vestry hall complex as a community asset in 2017. We host a restaurant run by a professional chef with delicious, healthy, good value meals and snacks. We have community spaces available both for our community activities and events and for hire for community purposes.

We’re proud of our Diaspora Multimedia Hub and studio, in partnership with Eyral TV and Sheffield Hallam University, which runs film courses for young people and produces videos.

Our story

Hire a meeting room or event space

We have a variety of excellent spaces available to the community: for big events, smaller one-off or regular meetings, and some office space. We are particularly proud of our main hall, which is 147.5m², with a 7+ metre high ceiling and well ventilated.

Lord Mayor Safiya Saeed’s chosen charity

Israac was the chosen charity of Lord Mayor Safiya Saeed. Her focus was raising funds to repair the roof of our community centre, securing a warm and weatherproof space for our activities to flourish.
